March 8, 2:45 a.m., County of Kaua‘i, Waimea brush fire
The Kaua‘i Fire Department is responding to a brush fire in Waimea near mile marker 2 of Waimea Canyon Drive. The fire was reported at 9 p.m., and was estimated to be 200 feet by 300 feet.
There are no threats to nearby structures and no reports of injuries.
Response
According to a preliminary report, crews have the fire under control. Department of Land and Natural Resourced Division of Forestry and Wildlife personnel and wildland fire fighters will continue to remain on scene until it is deemed safe to stand down.
Assets
Personnel with the Waimea, Hanapēpē, Kalāheo, and Kōloa fire stations, Rescue 3, Tanker 3, Tanker 5, the on-duty Battalion Chief, the Kaua‘i Police Department, the Department of Public Works, and the Department of Land and Natural Resources responded to this incident.
The Kaua‘i Emergency Management Agency is also monitoring the incident.
Road closures
Waimea Canyon Drive remains closed until Division of Forestry and Wildlife personnel and wildland fire fighters clear the scene.
