Kauaʻi Fire Department extinguish fire on Kahuna Road in Kapaʻa; two people displaced
KAPAʻA – Firefighters with the Kauaʻi Fire Department extinguished a structure fire reported shortly before 9 a.m. on Kahuna Road in Kapaʻa on Thursday, March 5.
No injuries were reported. Two people and a pet were displaced.
According to a preliminary report, personnel from the Līhu‘e, Kapaʻa, and Kaiākea fire stations, Rescue 3, Tanker 5, the on-duty Battalion Chief, and the Kaua‘i Police Department responded to the incident.
Upon arrival, firefighters found a single-story structure with the carport fully engulfed in flames and smoke coming from the windows and eaves.
Personnel from KPD confirmed that all occupants had safely exited the residence prior to firefighters’ arrival and were accounted for.
Firefighters secured a water supply and deployed hose lines to attack the fire. Crews quickly knocked down the flames and extinguished the fire.
The American Red Cross was contacted to assist the occupants. However, the occupants declined assistance.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Kauaʻi Fire Department Fire Prevention Bureau.
The scene was cleared at approximately 9:40 a.m.
Damages to property and belongings are estimated at $500,000.
