JAN. 30 UPDATE: Search for missing man continues at Kahili Beach in Kīlauea
KīLAUEA — First responders will continue their search for the missing 19-year-old Kapa‘a resident Matthew Packard-Asai until sundown this evening, and resume at first light tomorrow, January 31.
Personnel with the Kaua‘i Fire Department, Kaua‘i Police Department, American Medical Response, U.S. Coast Guard, Kaua‘i Search and Rescue, the Salvation Army, and State officials continue to respond to this incident.
According to a preliminary report, first responders received a report of two fisherman being swept into the water shortly after 12:15 p.m. on Wednesday, January 28.
First responders arrived on scene and safely brought one individual back to shore. Upon arriving on shore, who sustained a laceration to the leg, was transferred to American Medical Response for further medical care.
The multi-agency search remains ongoing. Additional updates will be provided as information becomes available.
