Traffic detour in Kekaha scheduled through April
KEKAHA – The County of Kaua‘i Department of Public Works advises the public that a traffic detour in the Kekaha area is scheduled through April 2026 due to road work by the Hawaiʻi Department of Transportation (HDOT).
The detour is associated with HDOT’s roadwork on Waimea Canyon Drive, which will require temporary traffic modifications during active construction. The detour route to Kōke‘e State Park includes ‘Alae Road and Kōke‘e Road in Kekaha, weekdays, from 8 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. Motorists traveling through the area should expect detours and potential delays.
Detour routes will be clearly marked with traffic control signs, and flaggers will be on site to assist with traffic flow as needed. Electronic message boards have been installed, and notices have been sent out to area residents and businesses.
Motorists are reminded to observe and obey all traffic controls, posted signs, and instructions from flaggers and special duty officers. Drivers are advised to proceed with caution through the construction area, follow all detour signage, and allow extra travel time.
Access for area residents will be maintained as much as possible during the road work.
The County of Kaua‘i thanks the public for its patience and cooperation as HDOT completes this necessary road work.
