Three Pedestrians Injured in Vehicle Collision on Ho‘owili Road
PO‘IPŪ – Three pedestrians suffered injuries following a vehicle collision Sunday evening.
On December 21, 2025, at approximately 8:00 p.m., a 2016 Ram truck traveling southbound on Ho‘owili Road crossed the centerline and struck three pedestrians walking on the northbound shoulder.
The pedestrians, a 43-year-old man, a 43-year-old woman, and a child, were transported to Wilcox Medical Center. The adults were admitted with serious injuries, while the child was treated and released.
The operator of the truck, Nita Fostanes, 52, of Hanapēpē, was uninjured and arrested for the offense of Operating a Vehicle Under the Influence of an Intoxicant, Reckless Driving, Inattention to Driving, and three counts of Negligent Injury in the First Degree. Preliminary investigation indicates that speed does not appear to be a contributing factor, and toxicology results are pending. Ho‘owili Road was closed for approximately one hour while the Kaua‘i Police Department’s Traffic Safety Section conducted an on-scene investigation.
