Injured hiker rescued from Makaha Ridge Saturday
LĪHU‘E — Personnel from the Kaua‘i Fire Department rescued an injured 23-year-old male resident from Makaha Ridge on Saturday, December 6.
According to a preliminary report, first responders received a report of an injured hunter shortly before 2 p.m.
Personnel with Waimea Fire Station, Department of Land and Natural Resources Division of Conservation and Resources Enforcement, and the Līhu‘e Fire Station aboard Air 1 responded to the incident.
Waimea Fire Station personnel hiked down steep terrain where they discovered the injured hunter in the Makaha Ridge who had fallen severely ill. Firefighters administered initial first aid and determined extraction via Air 1 would be best due to the hunter’s condition. Līhu‘e Fire Station personnel aboard Air 1 extracted the hunter using an aerial rescue vest, transporting the hiker to the National Aeronautics and Space Administration landing zone in Kōke‘e. Once arriving at the landing zone, the hunter was transported to American Medical Response for further medical care, who then transported him to a local hospital for further medical care.
The scene was cleared shortly after 6:05 p.m.
