Injured hiker rescued on Kalalau Trail Thursday
LĪHU‘E — Personnel from the Kaua‘i Fire Department rescued an injured 65-year-old male Utah visitor from the Kalalau Trail on Thursday, December 4.
According to a preliminary report, first responders received a report of an injured hiker shortly before 1:40 p.m.
Personnel with Līhu‘e Fire Station aboard Air 1 responded to the incident.
First responders arrived on the scene and discovered the injured hiker near Hanakāpī‘ai Falls who had fallen approximately 10 feet, causing a 6-inch laceration to his head. Firefighters administered initial first aid on scene and applied a c-collar with c-spine precautions. The hiker was extracted using a stokes litter to the nearest landing zone, where he was then loaded into the helicopter and taken to Princeville Airport. Upon landing at Princeville Airport, the hiker was transferred to Princeville Fire Station personnel and American Medical Response for further medical care. AMR then transported the hiker to a local hospital for further medical care.
The scene was cleared shortly after 4:30 p.m.
