Oct. 3, 2:45 P.M. UPDATE, County of Kaua‘i, Pakala brush fire
Kaua‘i Fire Department firefighters are responding to a brush fire in Pakala. The fire was reported at 2:15 p.m., and the size of the blaze is unknown at this time.
No injuries or damaged structures have been reported at this time.
Response
According to a preliminary report, crews are currently working to extinguish the brush fire.
Assets
Crews with the Hanapēpē, Kalaheo, and Waimea fire stations, Rescue 3, Tender 3, Air 1, and the on-duty Battalion Chief are responding to this incident. Heavy equipment on site are cutting a fire break. Crews with the Department of Public Works are on standby.
The Kaua‘i Emergency Management Agency is monitoring the incident.
Road closures
The westbound lane of Kaumualii Highway near mile markers 21 and 22 is currently closed with traffic alternating through the remaining lane.
