PO‘IPŪ – A visitor died after being pulled from the waters at Keoneloa Bay yesterday.
On Thursday, August 21, 2025, at approximately 6:30 p.m., first responders were dispatched to Keoneloa Bay, also known as Shipwreck Beach, following a report of a swimmer in distress. The individual reportedly jumped from the cliffside and encountered trouble in the water. Bystanders swam out to assist and successfully brought him to shore. CPR was administered until personnel from the Kaua‘i Fire Department and American Medical Response arrived and began advanced lifesaving efforts.
The swimmer was transported to Wilcox Medical Center in critical condition. Despite continued efforts, he was later pronounced deceased.
The swimmer has been identified as 39-year-old Jerome Hill, a resident of North Carolina.
An autopsy is pending to determine the exact cause of death, but foul play is not suspected.
The Kaua‘i Police Department extends its condolences to the family and loved ones of Jerome Hill during this difficult time.
