Kaua‘i Fire Department responds to brushfires Wednesday
LĪHU‘E — The Kaua‘i Fire Department responded to two separate brush fires on Wednesday, May 28. Both incidents were quickly contained and extinguished, with no injuries or property damage reported.
The first incident in Kaumakani was reported shortly after 4:15 p.m. Personnel from the Hanapēpē Fire Station responded and found an active brush fire approximately 30 by 50 feet in size. Firefighters from the Hanapēpē Fire Station arrived to find private landowners already working to wet the area and prevent the fire's spread. Firefighters deployed over 1,000 gallons of water to suppress the blaze, with additional support from the Waimea Fire Station to extinguish several spot fires. The fire was brought under control without incident.
The second incident in Port Allen was reported shortly after 4:30 p.m. Personnel from the Kalāheo Fire Station arrived on scene to find a 20 by 20 foot patch of smoldering grass. Approximately 325 gallons of water were used to extinguish the fire. No additional resources were required.
Both fires were quickly extinguished and all units were returned to service shortly after operations concluded.
