News Release

For Immediate Release: October 17, 2024

Oct. 17, 2:55 P.M. UPDATE, County of Kaua‘i, Anahola brush fire

Kaua‘i Fire Department firefighters are responding to multiple brush fires in Anahola.

Response

Crews continue to battle a 1-acre fire near Kuhio Highway near the Anahola Marketplace. Crews also responded to a 5,000-square foot brush fire mauka, near Kalalea Road, which is now under control.  

Assets

Crews with the Kapaa and Kaiakea fire stations, Tender 1, the on-duty Battalion Chief, and Air 1 are responding to the incident.

The Kaua‘i Emergency Management Agency is monitoring the incident. 

Road closures

At this time, the northbound lane of Kuhio Highway, near the Anahola Marketplace, is open to traffic. The southbound lane of Kuhio has been diverted to Kealia Road. There are no immediate threats to homes.

According to preliminary reports, Kauai Police Dispatch received a report of the first fire at approximately 12:55 p.m. The second fire was reported shortly before 2 p.m.
