4:15 p.m., Sept. 19, Wainiha brush fire update
WAINIHA – Kaua‘i Fire Department personnel have contained about 60% of a blaze on a ridge above Wainiha Powerhouse Road. Officials estimated the size of the fire to be 20 acres.
Response
Air 1 and Air 3 will continue with water drops until sundown Thursday, with firefighters assessing hot spots.
Fire crews and private landowners will keep watch overnight Thursday, with a command post stationed at Camp Naue. Fire crews and personnel with the Department of Land and Natural Resources Division of Forestry and Wildlife will continue firefighting efforts Friday morning.

There are no road closures or fire threats to homes at this time.
Resources
Personnel with the Hanalei Fire Station, Air 1, Air 2, Air 3, the on-duty Battalion Chief, private landowners, Rescue 3, Tanker 1, and the Kaua‘i Police Department responded to the incident. DLNR DOFAW personnel will be at the scene on Friday morning.
Emergency personnel with the Kaua‘i Emergency Management Agency are monitoring and are on standby if additional support is needed.
According to a preliminary report, the fire was first reported at approximately 8:35 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 18.
