First responders rescue injured hiker in Kōke‘e Sunday
KŌKE‘E – First responders rescued an injured 43-year-old female West Virginia visitor in Kōke‘e on Sunday, May 19.
Kaua‘i Fire Department personnel with the Waimea Fire Station and Rescue 3 aboard Air 1 responded to the incident.
According to a preliminary report, KFD received a report of an injured hiker on the Kukui Trail shortly before 12:20 p.m.
When Rescue 3 aboard Air 1 arrived on the Kukui Trail, they found the hiker with an apparent ankle injury from a fall.
She was short-hauled and transported to a landing zone near the trailhead of the Kukui Trail to awaiting medics with American Medical Response.
AMR personnel continued treatment of the hiker before transporting her to Kaua‘i Veterans Memorial Hospital.
The scene was cleared shortly at approximately 1:35 p.m.
