Drug investigation leads to arrest of wanted fugitive
LĪHUʻE – A 42-year-old Kapa‘a man was arrested on Jan. 30 following a multi-agency operation led by the Kaua‘i Police Department.
Michael Sears was sought on a $250,000 warrant in connection with a drug investigation. On Jan. 30, at approximately 5:30 p.m. KPD, with the assistance of the Maui Police Department and the U.S. Marshals Service Fugitive Task Force, apprehended Sears at Olowalu Beach in Maui. No injuries were reported during the operation.
Sears was arrested for the offense of Promoting a Dangerous Drug in the Second Degree. He has since been transported to the Kaua‘i Community Correctional Center (KCCC) where he currently remains as he is unable to post the $250,000 bail.
Kennison Nagahisa, Acting Captain of KPD’s Investigative Services Bureau, expressed his gratitude to the Maui Police Department and the U.S. Marshals Service. Acknowledging the pivotal role played by partnering agencies, Captain Nagahisa emphasized, “this kind of operation is only possible with the assistance and collaboration of multiple agencies, and we thank our partners for their integral support in ensuring the community’s safety and bringing the fugitive to justice.”
