Jan. 6, 11:30 a.m., Update: Search suspended for possible missing swimmer
KAPA‘A – The Kaua‘i Fire Department’s search for a possible missing swimmer in waters off Kapa‘a Beach Park was suspended at approximately 11:20 a.m. on Saturday, pending any new information.
Multiple agencies including the Kaua‘i Fire Department, Ocean Safety Bureau, and the U.S. Coast Guard conducted an air-, sea-, and land-based search when a bystander reported seeing someone in distress at approximately 5:30 p.m. Friday in waters fronting Pono Kai Resort in Kapa‘a.
Witnesses reported seeing a heavier-set male with long, grayish hair and no shirt snorkeling on Friday. However, no missing persons have been reported, and there have been no sightings of the possible missing swimmer since the search began Friday evening.
Fire officials have suspended their search efforts pending any new information. The U.S. Coast Guard remains on scene.
Anyone with information about the possible missing swimmer is urged to call KPD Dispatch at 808-241-1711.
