Portion of Wawae Road in Lāwa‘i closed overnight

LĀWA‘I  – A portion of Wawae Road in Lāwa‘i near the Lāwa‘i Stream and Kaumuali‘i Highway is closed in both directions overnight and until further notice.

The closure by the Kaua‘i Police Department is necessary for the public’s safety and to allow the Public Works Roads Division to clear a fallen tree from the roadway.

According to Kaua‘i Island Utility Cooperative personnel, there will be an extended power outage due to the need for road clearing before KIUC crews can start repairing the damage.

Road closure signs have been placed in the area, and motorists are advised to use Pu‘uwai Road as an alternative route.

Updates will be posted when the road reopens.
