Firefighters, landowner extinguish brush fire in Hanapēpē
HANAPĒPĒ – Firefighters responded to a brush fire that broke out Saturday night near Salt Pond Beach Park in Hanapēpē.
No injuries were reported, and no structures were threatened during the response.
At approximately 6:45 p.m., multiple units were dispatched to a brush fire reported near Salt Pond Beach Park, on property owned by Gay & Robinson. Personnel from the Hanapēpē and Kalāheo fire stations, and the on-duty Battalion Chief responded to the call.
Hanapēpē firefighters were first on scene, where they found a ring of burning brush approximately 75 feet in diameter. Due to the location of the fire, firefighters extended their hose lines and shuttled water from engine to engine. Engine 5 pumped its tank into Engine 6 and refilled three times during the response.
Firefighters soon gained control of the blaze when heavy equipment operated by Gay and Robinson personnel arrived on scene.
With assistance from Gay and Robinson personnel utilizing a water tender and grader, firefighters fully extinguished the fire which left approximately 10 acres scorched.
The scene was cleared shortly after 9 p.m. No road closures were reported during the response.
The cause of the fire is undetermined.
