Statement by Mayor Kawakami on the recent emergency ambulance services contract award
LĪHU‘E – Mayor Derek S.K. Kawakami issues the following statement on the recent contract award for emergency ambulance services for Kaua‘i and Maui counties:
“Many people have reached out to our office with concerns regarding the state awarding a new contract for emergency ambulance services to a new company. On a rural island like Kaua‘i the difference between life and death is often decided in the minutes of transport between Point A and Point B. It is our understanding that this procurement award is under protest and it is essential that we respect and adhere to the lawful due process involved, to ensure that the people of Kaua‘i and Maui counties receive critical life-saving emergency medical service.”
