9/11 National Day of Service event to be held on Sept. 11
LĪHU‘E – The Kaua‘i Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (Kaua‘i RSVP), sponsored by the County of Kaua‘i Agency on Elderly Affairs, is partnering with Kaua‘i Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster (Kaua‘i VOAD) to hold a special event on Monday, Sept. 11, to honor the heroes and sacrifices made on September 11, 2001.
The 9/11 National Day of Service event will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Kukui Grove Center, in Līhu‘e.
The event will feature a program including special performances and messages from various officials, and a recognition ceremony honoring representatives from Kaua‘i’s first responders. Attendees will be able to visit 35 exhibit and resource tables from numerous community organizations throughout the mall, explore volunteer opportunities, register to win prizes and enjoy entertainment by Ho‘ola and Limited Edition, Kaua‘i Band.
“This year marks 22 years since 9/11, and we continue to honor the sacrifices made that day by remembering the heroes, armed forces, first responders, the countless others and their acts of service to defend our nation’s freedom,” said Kealoha Takahashi, Executive on Aging. “The community is encouraged to honor, serve, and unite by engaging in service especially on this day of remembrance.”
During the week of Sept. 11, the County of Kaua‘i will display red, white, and blue lights on the Mo‘ikeha Building, from Sept. 6 through Sept. 12.
