LĀNAʻI CITY, Hawai‘i — The Hawai‘i Department of Transportation (HDOT) will begin limited operations at Kaumālapa‘u Harbor on Lāna‘i on Sunday, Sept. 13. Removal of underwater hazards from the waterway will be completed in time to accept the arrival of an incoming barge. Land-side repairs will continue for the coming weeks to support full reopening of the port.
As repairs to damage from Hurricane Lowell continue, the harbor will be closed to all but essential harbor personnel. This ensures barge and paving operations can be safely conducted in limited space. The Maui Police Department will assist with access control.
Young Brothers is scheduled to sail a special interisland barge shipment to Lāna‘i on Sunday. HDOT reminds everyone that only essential harbor personnel will be allowed at Kaumālapa‘u Harbor to facilitate safe offloading of goods and fuel as repairs continue to the pier apron.
