LĪHUʻE, Hawai‘i – The Hawai‘i Department of Transportation (HDOT) notifies passengers of the closing of Līhuʻe Airport (LIH) at 2:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 7, 2026. Carriers have advised the cancelation of all flights scheduled for the remainder of the day at LIH due to Hurricane Lowell. HDOT is working with the airlines to accommodate passengers that may have been stranded as a result of flight cancellations. 

LIH will be secured before closing, and security and airport personnel will remain at the airport to monitor the terminal and runway conditions and mitigate impacts. The Transportation Security Administration will close security checkpoints by 2:30 p.m. and will be prepared to send additional staff and technicians to LIH when the airport reopens to facilitate screening. 

HDOT anticipates resuming operations at LIH after the inspection of the runway and terminal facilities determines it is safe to do so. If the situation changes, notice will be sent and updates will be provided on https://hidot.hawaii.gov/weather-traffic/ and HDOT’s social media accounts. 

In addition, Kaua‘i commercial ports at Port Allen and Nāwiliwili have been set in Zulu, which means the port is closed and there are no terminal, facility or vessel operations permitted.
