FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE May 29, 2026 26-0241
HONOLULU — The Hawai‘i Department of Transportation (HDOT) is scheduled to close Runway 8R/26L nightly from 4 p.m. to 4 a.m., beginning Monday, June 1 and concluding on Monday, June 8 at 4 a.m. The closures are needed to complete various projects including runway and taxiway light replacement and taxiway repairs.
During the closures, arriving flights will primarily use Runway 4R as normal, with some using Runway 8L. Departing flights will likely use Runway 8L.
HDOT has coordinated with airlines and other partners to minimize impacts to flights. Increased noise may be experienced in surrounding neighborhoods, particularly in the ‘Ewa areas. All work is weather permitting.
HDOT appreciates the community’s patience and understanding while the needed work is conducted to ensure safe operations at HNL.
