As we recap a great February we also give you something fun to think about as March is upon us.

It's not a national holiday or anything, but on March 17, for one day we're all Irish! Happy St. Patrick's Day!

And towards the end of March, the 27th to be exact, we will celebrate Prince Jonah Kuhio Kalanianaole Day!

HDOT crews busy with all the bad weather

Hawaii Department of Transportation crews have been busy the past few weeks with all the rain and strong winds!

Downed trees, debris on roadways, and ponding have left many highways closed, airports bailing water, and our crews busy cleaning up.

And our crews deserve a huge WELL-DONE! They have been at it morning, noon, and night, making sure our communities from Hanalei to Hilo are SAFE.

And when possible making sure impacts to commuters are minimized by keeping single lanes open if possible.

So, thank you to all our crewmembers for the hard work you put in!!!

New TSA checkpoint at Daniel K. Inouye International Airport

The entrance to checkpoint 1B, which has four lanes. The checkpoint is considered the "primary" for TSA in Terminal 1, which opens at 4:15 a.m. and is now the location for TSA Pre-check.

The "mauka" end of Terminal 1 is where you will find TSA checkpoint 1A.

The old checkpoint in Terminal 1 has now been decommissioned, creating a lot of open space in the middle of Terminal 1.

Going roundabout on Maui

There is a new traffic safety measure in place in Kihei, Maui. This two-lane roundabout opened in mid-February. It's on Pi‘ilani Highway in the area where a new school will be opening in the future, and the Hawaii Department of Education picked up the $16 million tab.

Hawaii Island high schooler does capstone project on signage and outreach HDOT has done for wild animal crossings

A huge shoutout to Taylin Nishida (far right). She is a senior at KALO, which stands for Kanu O Ka ‘Āina Learning ‘Ohana Charter School on Hawaii Island in picturesque Waimea. Nishida's senior project focused on the Hawaii Department of Transportation's efforts to alert the public of the growing problem of feral pigs and goats running across Hawaii Belt Road (Route 190) from mile post 0 to mile post 12.

New Electric Bike and Electric Moped Rebate Program rolled out

HDOT First Deputy Tammy Lee joins Senator Chris Lee in introducing the new Electric Bike and Electric Moped Rebate Program. It was rolled out on February 27th. Harbors hosts American Samoa Welcome back Davis Yogi! He resumes his role as Harbors Administrator. Our harbor folks also hosted a leadership delegation from the Department of Port Administration from American Samoa. Keep close relations with our Pacific neighbors can be critical with hurricanes and other natural disasters always a threat.
