New State Record Bowfin Caught on Suwannee River

RECORD OF 1976 FELL THIS PAST WEEKEND WITH BOWFIN CATCH ON SUWANNEE
Angler Jimmy Tucker knows that a day of fishing in Georgia can be well worth it, and next time he will be sure to have a net to make it a little easier! Tucker, age 55, of Statenville hooked the new state record bowfin on the Suwannee River on June 21.
According to the Georgia Department of Natural Resources’ Wildlife Resources Division, this 16 lb, 3 oz, 33 1/4”-inch catch beat the existing state record, established in 1976, by three ounces. A new state record has to be at least one ounce greater.
This record catch comes in the same month as another state record was tied (spotted sunfish). So, why are you not fishing right now?
