Dogs Can Enjoy Staying, Playing in Georgia's State Parks
The
dog days of summer will be here before you know it, and Georgia’s State Parks
want to make sure Fido has a good time in the great outdoors. By spending time
in parks, dogs and owners will get exercise -- and Fido can enjoy a smorgasbord
of sights and smells.
-
Camping
What could be more fun to Fido than camping in the woods? More than 40
State Parks have campgrounds which welcome dogs. Pets must be leashed (6
feet or shorter) and accompanied by their owner at all times. Find a camp site near you at GeorgiaStateParks.org/campsites.
-
Cabins
If Fluffy prefers more creature comforts, bring him along for a cabin
getaway. Many parks have dog-friendly cabins, and advanced reservations
are required. To find more information on cabins visit GeorgiaStateParks.org/cabins.
-
Hiking (and Sniffing) Trails
Nearly every Georgia State Park has walking trails which welcome leashed dogs,
with a few exceptions at Tallulah Gorge and Panola Mountain. Trails range from easy to challenging –
and everything in between. Find the best trail for your next adventure at GeorgiaStateParks.org/hiking.
-
Free Dog Walks
Dogs need exercise just as much as people do, so we partnered with the Georgia
Veterinary Medical Association to encourage dog walking. Vets can give a
“prescription” for a healthy walk, which is redeemable for a $5 parking
pass. (We have even partnered with LifeLine Animal Project to have kids
from South DeKalb YMCA walk shelter dogs at Panola Mountain State Park!) To find out more about the program visit GeorgiaStateParks.org/petsrxercise.

Spending Time Together is the Best Mother's Day Gift
This
year, give Mom something truly special that she’ll remember always – time
together. Georgia’s State Parks
provide plenty of options that are close to home, affordable and suitable for
all ages. Need a few ideas?
-
Picnic in the Park
Give Mom a day off from cooking by packing a picnic basket with her favorite
goodies. All of Georgia’s State Parks have picnic tables and reservable
shelters with beautiful views. If Mom is an adventurous diner, sign up
for the Wild Gourmet Dinner on May 11 at Mistletoe State Park. On the
menu: rattlesnake and acorns! Find a picnic spot near you at GeorgiaStateParks.org/find.
-
Brunch with a View
If restaurants are more Mom’s style, visit a state park lodge where diners are
treated to bountiful meals. Afterward, you can walk off that banana pudding
with a walk in the woods.
Restaurant locations are listed at GeorgiaStateParks.org/lodges.
-
Take a Ranger-led Wildlife Walk
Birds, blooms and butterflies are sure to make Mom smile when you sign up for a
guided nature hike. A calendar of family friendly events is listed at GeorgiaStateParks.org/events.
-
Go Glamping
Moms who enjoy camping will love being treated to the luxury of “glamour
camping.” Four Georgia State Parks offer yurts – a cross between a tent
and a cabin – with great views. Let Dad fire up the grill and treat Mom
to a steak dinner too! View yurts at GeorgiaStateParks.org/yurts.
-
Year-Round Fun
If the kids can’t resist wrapping up a gift for Mom, consider an annual
membership to Friends of Georgia State Parks & Historic Sites. In addition
to discounts, membership comes with an Annual ParkPass. Order online at FriendsofGaStateParks.org.
