It’s Fall, Y’all! Time for Leaf Watching

Victoria Bryant State Park

It’s time for cozy campfires and waves of beautiful leaves to blanket our campgrounds. Only Mother Nature knows when color will peak, but the most vibrant hues are usually mid-October through early November. Now’s the time to book cabins and campsites that put you right in the middle of Instagram-worthy scenery. (Insider tip: you can also make reservations now for next fall, giving you first pick of your favorite site.) Our Leaf Watch Travel Planner lists top parks for fall color (like Victoria Bryant State Park shown here), autumn events, hiking trails and more.

Centennial Celebration of FDR’s Swim

FDR in Warm Springs

One hundred years ago, Franklin Delano Roosevelt first came to Georgia to swim in warm springs as therapy for polio. On October 4, join historians at Roosevelt’s Little White House Historic Site to celebrate that initial visit that would change the world. Gather on the lawn for a speech by great grandson Haven Roosevelt Luke and other dignitaries, re-enactments of FDR and Missy LeHand, and house tours. Admission is free for this Centennial Celebration.

Showcase Your Fall Photos

Shutterbugs, let's see your autumn adventures. Our Leaf Watch Travel Planner includes galleries where park guests can show off their camera skills. Even if you don’t post to Instagram, you can still upload your favorite fall-color shots. Tag #GaLeafWatch and #GaStateParks, and tell us which park you're visiting, for a chance to be featured throughout the leaf-watching season. (Photo of Vogel State Park by Jennifer Washington.)

Halloween Happenings

Halloween Decorations at Campsite

Celebrate the spooky season with trunk-or-treating, glow-in-the-dark mini-golf and campsite decorating contests at several Georgia State Parks and Historic Sites. Haunted hayrides at Magnolia Springs, Tallulah Gorge, Victoria Bryant and Watson Mill Bridge are the perfect way to get your ghoul on. Florence Marina’s Halloween Festival includes a pet costume contest, pumpkin decorating and more. Check out what else is happening in October on GaStateParks, and be sure to reserve the perfect campsite surrounded by gorgeous fall color.
