Spring Break Getaways

Camping

If your family is more into wildlife than the wild life, experience Spring Break with us. Learn about reptiles during “Tales of Scales” programs, look for deer and gopher tortoises on the trail, or listen for owls hooting in the campground. Activities like hiking, kayak rental, fishing, archery classes and more keep kids busy all week, and they can even earn their own Junior Rangers badges to take home. Find cottages, yurts and campsites on GaStateParks.org.

For water enthusiasts, Hard Labor Creek State Park offers an accessible kayak launch providing stable access to the lake, and A.H. Stephens State Park has accessible equestrian facilities. You’ll even find outdoor exercise equipment suited for wheelchairs and paved trails at numerous locations across the state. Find facilities near you. Happy Little 5K

Bob Ross 5K Graphic

Embrace the outdoors with a “Happy Little 5K” that honors beloved painter Bob Ross and supports environmental efforts. Sponsored byFriends of Georgia State Parks and Historic Sites, the event invites runners, walkers, paddlers and hikers to complete their 5K anywhere outdoors between Earth Day (April 22) and Arbor Day (April 26). You pick the pace and the place. You’ll get a keepsake t-shirt and bib number, finishers medal and Happy Little Trees sticker. Proceeds go toward tree-plantings in state parks. It's not just a run; it's a celebration of nature, fitness and giving back.

Panola Mountain's Diamorpha Days

Panola Mountain

The tiny Diamorpha Smallii is in bloom atop Panola Mountain State Park, so it’s time to join rangers for a hike on the granite mountain. Endemic to the Southeast, this gorgeous red succulent fills Panola Mountain's solution pits during March and makes for beautiful photo opportunities. The protected mountaintop is open to ranger-led hikes only on March 9, 16, 17 and 24, covering about three miles with significant elevation changes. Hikes are open to visitors 10 and older, and advanced reservations are required. Groups should call for private tours.
