Big Hammock Shooting Range Permanently Closed
Effective immediately, the Big Hammock Shooting Range located at Big Hammock Wildlife Management Area in Tattnall County is permanently closed, according to the Georgia Department of Natural Resources' Wildlife Resources Division.Â
Frequent flooding necessitated long closures of this shooting range much of the year and inhibited maintenance of the facility. After consultations with shooting range specialists, the decision was made to close the facility, recycle the lead in the range berm, and return the soil to its original condition.Â
The two nearest open DNR public ranges are Richmond Hill (to the east of Big Hammock) and Bullard Creek (to the west of Big Hammock). Other opportunities to shoot can be found at https://www.wheretoshoot.org/.
