Unique Places to Sleep in Georgia's State Parks

Yurt at Sweetwater Creek

When some people think of staying in a state park, the first thing that comes to mind is sleeping under the stars. While we have fantastic spots for camping, Georgia's State Parks also have more unique and cozy options as well. From renovated cabins overlooking the mountains, a historic farmhouse or even glamping, our parks are the perfect spot to plan your next vacation. Find your next can't-wait-to-return getaway on GaStateParks.org. (Yurt photo by The Georgia Photography Fanatic.)

Your State Parks Day is September 24

Your State Parks Day volunteers

In celebration of National Public Lands Day, Georgia’s State Parks & Historic Sites are inviting citizens to volunteer for a variety of projects on Saturday, September 24. All across the Peach State, you can help with projects that aid in the preservation of our parks and natural landmarks. Join rangers to work on trails at Elijah Clark, the entrance to Fort King George, a pollinator garden at High Falls, and dozens of more projects. The statewide “Your State Parks Day” is sponsored by Friends of Georgia State Parks & Historic Sites.

Kolomoki Festival is October 8

Kolomoki Festival

Kolomoki Mounds State Park near Blakely is gearing up for its biggest event of the year on Saturday, October 8. This annual festival will include music, an antique tractor parade, pontoon boat tours, crafts and food vendors. You’ll learn about primitive skills such as flint knapping, hide tanning, archery, pottery and more while visiting one of the most significant Woodland Indian sites in the Southeast.

Turn Over a New Leaf

Red Top Mountain leaves

“Turn over a new leaf” this year when you join rangers for tree-related outings. Our annual programming theme for 2022 focuses on all the ways we can benefit from, and simply enjoy, trees. Join a park ranger for a hike at Sweetwater Creek, explore the coastal forest at Fort Morris, or listen for night sounds from the treetops to the lake's edge at Hamburg. You’ll find a full calendar of programs on GaStateParks.org. (Photo by @kayakjeff7. If you're highlighting your adventures on Instagram, tag us #gastateparks for a chance to be featured.)
