Fitzgerald Wild Chicken fest: Let the crowing begin

Fitzgerald struts its stuff again this weekend with its Wild Chicken Festival.

The annual celebration Friday night, March 16, and all day Saturday, March 17, is going strong 12 years after organizers converted the former rattlesnake roundup to feature the town's wild Burmese chickens. (Which, love 'em or hate 'em, are also still going strong!)

The focus is more community-oriented, according to organizers. And the thousands of people who attend are evidence that the food, free Friday night street dance, crafts and competitions, including a Miss Wild Chicken Pageant, wings eating contest and Kiwanis Wild Chicken 5k Sprint, are, well, something to crow about.

In fact, there's even a crowing contest.

Admission is free. There are fees for some activities.
