March is Harvest Time at Go Fish Education Center!

Bring your coolers! It's time to take trout and catfish out of the fishing pond at Go Fish Education Center in Perry. Visitors can catch and take home three trout and five catfish each Friday, Saturday and Sunday during March.

"We stocked the pond with 200 rainbow trout in December," says Jeremy Wixson, center manager. "As we enter spring and the weather warms up, these cold-water fish need to be harvested. In addition, our catfish population has done very well and needs to be thinned out."

The fishing pond also contains hybrid striped bass and bluegill for catch-and-release fishing.

To take advantage of the March Harvest, visit the center 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday and Saturday or 1 to 5 p.m. on Sunday. The admission is $5 for adults, $4 for seniors, $3 for kids 3-12, and free for those under 2 years old. Adults (age 16 and up) need a valid Georgia fishing license and trout license. You can purchase licenses online or at the center. Youth under 16 do not need a license.

Fishing poles and bait are provided free of charge. The center staff and volunteers will be on hand to help new anglers at the pond and give instruction on cleaning the fish at home. Wixson recommends bringing a cooler and ice from home.

The center is located at 1255 Perry Parkway, Perry, adjacent to the Georgia National Fairgrounds. From I-75, exit 134 and go east 3/4 mile. For more information, call 478.988.6701 or email info@gofisheducationcenter.com.
