Wildlife Management Area Turkey Hunting Opportunities
As a recent Hunter Education graduate, you may be looking for places to hunt. With the Georgia Turkey Season running March 24 – May 15, there are plenty of turkey hunting opportunities for you within Georgia's Wildlife Management Area (WMA) system!
There are several types of turkey hunts offered:
1. Quota hunts with a limit on the number of hunters
2. Hunts open to all licensed hunters
The Hunting Regulations book has a comprehensive list of all of Georgia's WMAs and the specific regulations for each WMA. The WMAs are listed by region in the state. Find the WMAs in your region. A "Q" in front of a hunt indicates that this particular hunt is a Quota hunt. You must apply and be selected to participate in quota hunts. If there is no "Q," then the hunt is open to all licensed hunters.
1. How to Apply for a Turkey Quota Hunt:
- Create an account in the Quota Hunt System here: https://apps.gadnr.org/QuotaHunt/Default.aspx
- Submit an application by Feb. 15 to be eligible.
- A complete list of 2012 Turkey Quota Hunts may be found here: http://www.eregulations.com/georgia/hunting/turkey-quota-hunts/
- The quota system is based upon priority points. You receive a point each time your application is NOT selected. Priority points may be used on future applications to give more weight to your application and increase the likelihood that you are selected.
- Information on the estimated number of priority points that are needed to be selected for a specific hunt may be found here: http://www.gohuntgeorgia.com/Hunting/QuotaOdds?cat=1
2. How to Participate in ALL other WMA Turkey Hunts:
There are a few Adult/Child Turkey hunts available. Go here for a list:http://www.eregulations.com/georgia/hunting/wma-adultchild-specialty-hunts/
ALL other turkey hunts are open to any licensed hunter (unless specified otherwise). These hunts require you to sign-in at the WMA check station or kiosk prior to hunting. You sign out only if you harvest a turkey. Consult the hunting regulations for specific information about turkey hunting the WMA nearest you!
