Winter Brings Quiet Escapes, Easy Getaways

Black Rock Mountain in snow

A different kind of beauty unfolds in wintertime. Lakes are still in the early mornings, with mist swirling above the water’s surface. Sunbeams radiate through barren and beautiful tree branches. Hikers can see further through the forest, making it easier to spot deer. Winter is also a great time for last-minute getaways when it’s easier to grab a cabin with the perfect porch view. A few Georgia State Parks are offering discounts in February, making this a good time to save on quick getaways. Find the perfect winter hiking trail, campsite, yurt or cabin on GaStateParks.org

Free Super Museum Sunday is February 9

Roosevelt's Little White House

To spotlight Georgia’s fascinating past, State Historic Sites are offering free admission this Sunday, February 9. The event is part of Georgia History Festival’s statewide celebration of “Super Museum Sunday.” Visitors can translate the Cherokee Nation’s first newspaper, admire FDR’s hand-controlled roadster, walk in the footsteps of Civil War soldiers, or learn about our nation’s first gold rush. Find places to step into the past.
