Firearms Deer Hunting Season Opens Oct. 19

It’s been about 276 days since firearms hunters last stocked the freezer with venison backstrap and tenderloin. Finally, the wait is over. Georgia deer firearms season opens Sat., Oct. 19 and continues through Jan. 12, 2020 statewide. Over one million acres of public hunting land is available and ready for hunters in Georgia, including more than 100 state-operated wildlife management areas. Make sure you brush up on the 2019-2020 Georgia Hunting Regulations before you head to the woods.

Hunt the Rut

When is the peak rut in your county? Well, it depends. The rut ranges from October to December in Georgia, depending on what area you’re hunting. Peak movement typically lasts about a week, but the total span of breeding may take place over 1.5 to 2 months. Enter the Georgia rut map to take out some of the guess work for hunters. Buy a Hunting License & Support Wildlife!

Hunters and Anglers fund wildlife conservation in Georgia. 100% of your license dollars support wildlife, and each person that has a license returns up to $55 of federal funding to Georgia each year. Those federal funds are from excise taxes that you pay on guns and ammo, archery equipment, fishing equipment and boat fuel.
