As we get ready to make summer plans, make a stop at CEWC for some of our amazing junior naturalist camps. These camps get everyone outside enjoying nature through canoeing, archery, and wildlife encounters. Registration is open and sign up today. Deadline for registration for camps held at CEWC is May 21st, 2018. Please share this newsletter with friends and family.

Day Camps

6/5 – 6/8   Charlie’s Trackers Day Camp                      (ages 7 – 8) $125

9am – 4pm each day, Brooke Ager Discovery Area

Just like Charlie Elliott in his youth, campers will gain new outdoor skills while they hike forest trails, explore waterways, and search for wildlife evidence. Live animal encounters, games, and crafts are also planned for this week of fun and adventure. Kids will also get a chance to become Junior Rangers, a program that was started by Mr. Elliott himself.

6/12-6/15    Wildlife Rangers Day Camp Session I               (ages 9-10)  $135

6/19-6/22    Wildlife Rangers Day Camp Session II             (ages 9-10)  $135

Tues-Wed 9:00am-4:00pm, Thurs 9am- overnight, Fri pick-up -12pm

Wildlife Rangers will travel back in time to imagine what life was like for the Native Americans and early settlers of this area.  Campers will learn basic survival skills such as shelter building, outdoor cooking, animal tracking, fishing, canoeing, archery, games and old-time music. This camp also features a Thursday night campfire and tent camp-out, with parent pick-up Friday morning! Click here for more information. 

 

Overnight Camps

6/2-6/7  Camp TALON (Teen Adventures Learning Ornithology & Nature)        (ages 12-16)  $375-425

Camp TALON is a five-day camp for teens interested in birds and nature. Sponsored by the Georgia Department of Natural Resources, the Georgia Ornithological Society, and the Atlanta Audubon Society, participants get a chance to experience birding on Little St. Simons Island, Wassaw Island NWR, Sapelo Island, Harris Neck NWR, Jekyll Island, Altamaha WMA, and St. Simons Island. Maximum number of students is 16. 6/25–6/29   Outdoor Adventure Team Challenge Camp           (ages 11-13)  $250

Mon 2:30pm- Fri 2:00pm, Charlie Elliott Conference Center

Team work and team spirit abound as campers work together to complete challenges utilizing the outdoor skills they’ve learned and developed throughout the week. This is a fast-paced, high energy camp. Campers’ days will be brimming with outdoor pursuits such as hiking, canoeing, fire building, and wilderness survival. Our trained and certified counselors will guide campers along their journey culminating in an all-out, every-team-for-themselves competition!

 

7/2-7/5     Shooting Sports Overnight Camp                             (ages 14-16) $250

Mon 2:30 pm – Thurs 12pm, Charlie Elliott Conference Center

We’ve expanded and improved this popular camp. Campers will receive hands on instruction from DNR Professionals in Archery, Shotgun, Air rifle, and .22 rifle shooting.  Campers will also have the opportunity to complete the NRA First Steps Program and earn badges for target and skeet shooting challenges. 

7/16- 7/20  Adventures in Conservation Education (ACE) Camp $150

Mon 10:00am- Fri 5:00pm, Charlie Elliott Conference Center (rising middle school students)         

ACE is a summer camp for middle school students focused on wildlife conservation. Participants will spend five days immersed in Georgia wildlife via hands-on activities and day trips with real research biologists across the state, and participate in management practices.  Thanks to a grant from The Environmental Resources Network, the cost of the program is only $150 per person which covers all room and board and program fees. This year the camp is going to be held at Epworth by the Sea in Saint Simons Island, GA. Maximum number of participants for this camp is 16.

7/24 – 7/27          CEWC Wilderness Survival Camp    (AGES 12—16) $250                                     

Mon 2:30pm – Thurs 12:00pm, Charlie Elliott Conference Center                       

Are you a young person interested in expanding your knowledge of outdoor skills?  If so, Charlie Elliott’s Wilderness Survival Camp is just for you!  Come and join our team of experienced naturalists as they take part in various activities meant to sharpen your ability to stay healthy and alert in dangerous wilderness situations.  We will explore such topics as primitive fire building, edible and medicinal plant use, wilderness first aid, the building and setting of snares, shelter fashioning, and much more!  We’ll also find some time for other recreational activities like camp games, canoeing, and archery.  Come prepared to walk away as an expert outdoorsperson, to gain some knowledge, and to have a lot of fun along the way! 

 

Registration: Full payment and all required forms below must be completed and submitted by the registration deadline in order for your child to attend summer camp.

Full paperwork includes Registration form, all Camper Health Record and Emergency Information Forms, Behavior Standards, an immunization record signed by a doctor and Participant and a Minor Waiver Release Form. New to 2018, you must complete a Bright from the Start Exemption notice for all camps (not just day camp).  If you turn in an incomplete packet, you will be wait-listed and notified of your missing forms. 

If you wish to opt out of the immunization record for any reason, you must fill out this affidavit.
