Late Check-Out on Labor Day

Sleep a little later and enjoy more of your holiday when you take advantage of late check-out on Labor Day. Cottage, cabin and yurt guests can stay until 4 p.m. on Monday, September 5, with a $25 fee. Just tell the park office you want the Labor Day deal when you check in. (Available only on accommodations not reserved for the following day. Some restrictions apply.)

Site-Specific Reservations

Beginning August 1, you’ll be able to request your favorite campsite number at four state parks and be sure it’s still available when you arrive. The entire campground at James H. Floyd (Summerville) and Richard B. Russell (Elberton) will be site-specific, while select sections of Reed Bingham (Adel) and Laura S. Walker (Waycross) will be site-specific. Save your favorite spot today.

Campers who stayed with us in June or July are invited to save 50% when returning in August. Just use the promo code you received when checking in, and you can explore a new campground this month. The offer cannot be combined with any other discounts but can be used at any participating Georgia State Park. Dog lovers, your family pet is welcome in our campgrounds! Party Under the Perseids

Friday, August 12, 2016, 9 p.m.

Witness this meteor shower from one of the darkest locations in the South. The Perseids can produce as many as 50-100 meteors per hour. We will also observe other features of the night sky and learn about light pollution. Stay overnight and explore the Okefenokee Swamp the following day. Boat tours available. $5 parking. 912-637-5274. 

Hard Labor Creek State Park in Rutledge is also hosting a Star Party at their lakeside beach, 7 p.m. August 12 until 3 a.m. the following morning. $5 parking. 706-557-3001.

Pokemon High Falls

Pokemon Night Hunt

Friday, August 12, 2016, 8 - 9 p.m.


Calling all Pokemon trainers! Beginner or expert, join us for a Pokemon night hike and hunt. We will set up lures at Pokestops in the park. We will also take a short hike to the falls to see what Pokemon are lurking at night. Bring your smartphone, headlamp and walking shoes. $5 plus $5 parking. 478-993-3053.

Dog Days of Summer

Saturday, August 13, 2016, 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.


Bring Fido for a tail-waggin’ time with Friends of Georgia DNR Search and Rescue Team, Lifeline Animal Project and others. Includes a guided dog walk, pet adoptions, canine obstacle course, K-9 demonstrations, silent auction, games for you and your pooch, and even tree climbing (for people, not pups).
