New Dog-Walking Club Starts June 4: Tails On Trails

Now THIS is something to wag about! You and your four-legged friend can earn a t-shirt and matching bandana through our new Tails on Trails Club. All you have to do is get your $15 membership card punched at participating park offices after exploring dog-friendly trails. Our new Tails on Trails Club includes Fort Mountain (Chatsworth), F.D. Roosevelt (Pine Mountain), Don Carter (Lake Lanier), Sweetwater Creek (Lithia Springs), High Falls (Jackson), Fort McAllister (Richmond Hill) and Red Top Mountain (Lake Allatoona) state parks. Grab that leash and come hike with your dog!

Hiking Trail Fort Mountain

National Trails Day is June 4: Come Hike

Lace up your hiking boots and hit the trails during this national celebration. Our rangers have planned dozens of hikes for all ages and abilities. Enjoy sunset from the temple mound at Kolomoki Mounds (Blakely), look for fiddler crabs at Fort McAllister (Richmond Hill) or explore an old marble mine at James H. Floyd (Summerville). Find an event near you.

Father’s Day Gifts

Treat Dad to a day in the great outdoors with a Georgia State Park gift card. Available at park offices and online, gift cards can be used for golf, cabins, campsites, boat rental, bike rental, retail items and more. Several parks have planned Father’s Day activities, like bluegrass at Cloudland Canyon (Trenton) or a full-moon lake paddle at Tallulah Gorge (Tallulah Falls). Find an event Dad will love.

Junior Ranger

Become a Junior Ranger this Summer

This summer, children ages 6 to12 can learn about Georgia’s wildlife, environment and history as they work toward earning a Junior Ranger badge. Our free Junior Ranger Activity Book lets them experience nature first-hand, explore Georgia's fascinating past and try new outdoor activities. Several parks host Junior Ranger camps as well.

Sweetwater Creek mill hike

Historic New Manchester Mill Hikes  

Multiple Dates in June, 7:30 p.m.

This guided hike follows Sweetwater Creek to the historic Civil War-era New Manchester Mill. As seen in the "Hunger Games: Mockingjay" film, the mill is situated along the lovely rapids (up to class IV+) of Sweetwater Creek. This tour requires a moderate one-mile hike. $5 plus $5 parking. 770-732-5871.

New Town Creek Hike & Cherokee History 

Saturday, June 4, 2016 9 - 11 a.m.

Explore the former Cherokee Nation capital, New Town Creek and Tarvin's Pond. Wear walking shoes, bring your binoculars and come along as we join millions of people around America celebrating National Trails Day. Stand-Up Paddleboarding for Beginners

Saturday, June 11, 2016 10 a.m.

Try your hand at this growing sport. Our class will help you develop fundamental skills such as balance, effective paddling/stroke, steering, and falling/recovery techniques. Open to adults and children 12 and older who are accompanied by an adult. Must be a swimmer. Advance registration required. $15 plus $5 parking. 478-993-3053.
