If you’re looking for some community fun this summer, you won’t have to travel too far from home. With five events scheduled through July, Chatham County Parks and Recreation’s Rec n’ Roll series is bringing the fun straight to your neighborhood.
“The goal of the Rec n’ Roll series is to bring recreation programming directly to our neighborhood parks and their surrounding communities. Most residents don’t live in immediate proximity to a public recreation facility, so we want to offer an opportunity to participate in great fun at no cost,” said Chatham County Parks and Recreation Deputy Director Maxime Pierre.

Originally built as a training facility for Olympic weightlifters ahead of the 1996 Atlanta Games, the Anderson Cohen Weightlifting Center has grown over the past three decades into a true community space.
Part of the Chatham County Parks & Recreation system, the gym serves residents of all ages and fitness levels—from elite competitors to first-time lifters— in a welcoming and supportive environment, said Billy Cortes, Recreational Supervisor at the Anderson Cohen Weightlifting Center.

Chatham County Aquatic Center made a big splash at the “Make A Splash” Water Safety Event on Saturday, May 16! Kids enjoyed a variety of interactive water safety stations, including lifejacket safety, “Reach or Throw — Don’t Go,” snorkeling, paddle boarding, pool games, and the giant water slide.
The event was held as part of National Water Safety Month, which is recognized each May. National Water Safety Month is a reminder that water safety education can save lives. Taking the time to learn basic safety skills, understand water hazards, and prepare for emergencies helps people of all ages stay safer in and around the water.
“Thank you to everyone who joined us and helped make this event such a success,” said Chatham County Aquatic Center Manager, MaryRyan Aimar. “We appreciate the opportunity to connect with families in our community and help keep everyone safer this summer!”
Aimar also extended thanks to the many local organizations that came together for the event.
“We’re especially grateful to our amazing community partners — Safe Kids Savannah, Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc., Savannah Fire Department, United States Coast Guard Auxiliary, and Savannah Sail & Power Squadron — for volunteering their time to educate children and parents about water safety, swim skills, and drowning prevention,” she said.

Tom Triplett Community Park offers nearly 200 acres of outdoor fun and relaxation. At the heart of the park is a 19-acre lake stocked with a variety of fish and a paved 1.5 mile walking path circles the lake.
The park also includes a large, handicap accessible lakeside pavilion, enclosed meeting room, playgrounds, dog park and multiple sports fields and facilies includiing tennis, disc golf and pickleball.
Those looking for history will also find it at this historically recognized stop on the Civil War Heritage Trail. Markers and information stations give a historical account of the union army’s March To The Sea as General Sherman camped on this land in his approach to Savannah in 1864.
Tom Triplett park is located at 1335 US HWY 80 in Pooler, and is open seven days a week from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Greenbriar is centrally located within a half-mile of Alfred E. Beach High School, DeRenne Middle School, Hodge Elementary School, and Building Bridges (an alternative middle school) making it perfectly positioned to meet the needs of the surrounding communities.
