Chatham County was proud to stand alongside Live Oak Public Library to celebrate the opening of the Carnegie Library Heritage Center last Friday.
The reimagined Carnegie Library Heritage Center will protect and preserve Savannah’s rich tapestry of Black History through museum-quality exhibits, oral history recordings, and interactive displays.
Carnegie Library has always served as a beacon of knowledge, resilience, community service and empowerment for the Savannah community, both during segregation and after. Through the opening of the re-imagined Carnegie, Live Oak hopes to elevate the voices and lived experiences of Black Savannahians for years to come.

Rhythm, Reflection, and Unity: Chatham County Celebrates National Day of Racial Healing
In celebration of the National Day of Racial Healing, the Chatham County Parks & Recreation Department partnered with the Greenbriar Gym to present a powerful and uplifting evening of culture, creativity, and community connection. Designed to honor the spirit of unity and reflection, the event brought together local artists and performers whose talents highlighted the richness of cultural diversity within the community.

Chatham County is evaluating community satisfaction with the current private subscription-based volunteer fire department and gathering input on whether residents would prefer fire protection services to be provided by the Chatham County Fire Department (CCFD). Your feedback will help inform future planning and public safety decisions.

The Chatham Emergency Management Agency is encouraging Chatham County residents affected by Hurricane Debby and/or Hurricane Helene to apply for available individual assistance.
The Coastal Empire Disaster Recovery Committee (CEDRC) is providing support to residents who experienced structural damage from these storms. While FEMA assistance and insurance may have covered some losses, this program is designed to help address remaining unmet needs.
How to apply: Eligible residents may apply by completing a survey and case intake form, which collects contact information, details about the damaged dwelling, and information regarding any previous assistance received from FEMA, insurance providers, or other sources.
