Chatham County Invites Community to Virtual Sessions on Climate Resilience
For Immediate Release
Chatham County, GA (February 12, 2025) - Chatham County continues its commitment to sustainability and resilience with the integration of climate change considerations into all elements of the Plan 2040 Chatham County – Savannah Comprehensive Plan. This forward-thinking plan includes goals and strategies aimed at adapting to and mitigating the economic, environmental, and social effects of climate change.
As part of this ongoing effort, Chatham County’s Resilience Program is working to embed resilience into government operations and countywide initiatives through municipal collaboration. To further these goals, Chatham County applied for and was awarded a Georgia Department of Natural Resources Coastal Incentive Grant. This funding will support efforts to explore updates to local codes and ordinances in unincorporated Chatham County and the City of Savannah to foster a more resilient, sustainable, and equitable region.
Community engagement is a key part of this initiative. Residents interested in shaping the future of unincorporated Chatham County and the City of Savannah, particularly regarding climate resilience and environmental challenges, are invited to participate in a series of virtual sessions titled Reviewing Regulations for Resilience: How Our Policies Can Help Us Respond to Sea Level Rise and Climate Change.
