Chatham County to Hold Public Information Open House to Discuss Safe Streets for All

Chatham County, GA (July 25, 2024) - Chatham County is dedicated to ensuring safer streets for everyone, including drivers, pedestrians, cyclists, transit users, and all individuals utilizing various modes of transportation. This commitment prioritizes disadvantaged communities that have historically faced transportation challenges, such as limited access to transportation options, inadequate pedestrian infrastructure, and higher rates of road incidents The Safety Action Plan signifies the commitment of Chatham County to prioritizing the elimination of transportation-related fatalities and serious injuries.
Residents are invited to the Public Information Open House to review the data collected during existing conditions study. The project team is also accepting comments to learn what areas road users feel most impacted by.

DETAILS: Chatham County secured a Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A) grant following the announcement of the SS4A program by the United States Department of Transportation (USDOT). The SS4A program aligns with the USDOT's National Roadway Safety Strategy, aiming for zero roadway deaths through a Safe System Approach, which includes five elements: safe road users, safe vehicles, safe speeds, safe roads, and post-crash care. The Safe System Approach is a method for making roads safer considering all road users, anticipating the possibility of errors by drivers and other road users, and aiming to minimize the impact of crashes on the human body.
