  Black History Month
During this week's City Commission Meeting, Mayor Keith A. James proclaimed February 2026 as Black History Month in West Palm Beach — during it's 100th anniversary in the United States.
"This is a time when we reflect on the history, culture, and enduring contributions of Black Americans, whose leadership, resilience, and excellence have shaped our City, our nation, and every sector of our society.
In honor of Black History Month, I had the privilege and honor of selecting Danita R. DeHaney as a Heritage Hero and Honoree during this week’s City Commission Meeting.
Danita R. DeHaney, President and CEO of the Community Foundation since 2021, exemplifies transformative leadership in philanthropy and higher education, driving record-breaking fundraising efforts that strengthen communities. With decades of experience guiding major institutions through historic campaigns, she continues to inspire impact, excellence, and opportunity for future generations. We are honored to recognize the Junior League of the Palm Beaches for 85 years of extraordinary service and leadership in our community.
Founded in 1941 by visionary women dedicated to improving the community through voluntarism, leadership, and civic engagement, the Junior League of the Palm Beaches has grown into one of our area’s most impactful and enduring organizations.
This organization has empowered generations of women to become civic leaders and changemakers, committed to addressing the most pressing needs of Palm Beach County through hands-on service and strategic advocacy.
Accepting the procmation on behalf of the Junior League of the Palm Beaches, we welcomed President Kate Stamm, President-elect Emily Schachtel, Executive Vice President Christine DeMichael, and members of the Board of Directors and Management Team.
