Behind the Scenes | FIRST LOOK at the Iconic Revitalized Sunset Lounge
We opened the doors for a special preview of the Sunset Lounge during our recent Historic Northwest Community meeting as we are wrapping up the Furniture, Fixtures, and Equipment (FF&E). This neighborhood has been the focus of bringing this iconic lounge back to life. Thank you to all who attended our largest community meeting to date!
Sunset Lounge | Soul in the City was a HIT!
"Last night was a monumental moment for the Historic Northwest District. The community came together to celebrate the reopening of the historic Sunset Lounge — a place that first opened in 1926, becoming a cultural anchor, a gathering space, and a stage that helped shape the artistic identity of West Palm Beach. Legends like Count Basie, Ella Fitzgerald, and Louis Armstrong performed here, leaving behind a legacy that forever influenced the musical fabric of our City.
We marked the start of this new era at the Sunset Lounge with an incredible performance by Grammy-nominated saxophonist Boney James during Soul in the City.
Thank you to our City Commissioners and CRA Board, our City Administration, the CRA, City staff, and every partner and advocate who believed in this project.
With this investment, the Sunset Lounge will once again serve as a home for live music, community gatherings, cultural storytelling, and a place where residents and visitors alike can experience the heritage of this neighborhood."
— Mayor Keith A. James
