UPDATE: OCT. 12 | 8:30 a.m.
Everyone is eager to return to normal after Hurricanes Helene and Milton, but we ask for your continued patience as recovery efforts continue. Our teams are working hard to clear debris, but many cities along Florida's west coast are facing similar challenges, and contractors are being dispatched to multiple areas. Please know we're doing everything we can to restore our beautiful island. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation during this time!
City Hall does not have power. Staff is operating out of multiple Emergency Operation Centers. You can still contact City Hall by calling 727-547-4575 or emailing CityHall@mytreasureisland.org.
Sewer System/Water
Lift stations are operational but running on generator power. There is still a boil water notice in effect. Pinellas County continues to reduce water pressure to the southern barrier islands as they work on the water system. Please limit water use. If you see broken waterlines, please contact Pinellas Utilities at 727-464-4000.
Power
Duke Energy is working to restore power.
You can stay updated at duke-energy.com/outages or call 800-228-8485.
With power still out on the island, drivers must treat intersections as a four-way stop.
Rainwater Drainage
Staff’s first priority after a storm is to get lift stations operational so residents don’t have a sewage backup in their homes. Now that lift stations (generator power) are operational, crews can focus on clearing drains.
Debris
City staff is collecting debris while waiting for debris contractors to return to continue debris management operations. Residents are asked to understand that this will be a long process that could take months. The entire west coast of Florida has similar damage, and contractors are also being dispatched to those areas. The city has requested as many resources as we can get.
Residents are allowed to hire their own contractors for debris collection. Contractors must take the debris to a dump site themselves. The debris management sites on the island are operated by FEMA and do not allow private contractors to dispose of debris at those sites.
Trash Collection:
Public Works is continuing waste collection. Crews will begin to follow the regular collection schedule as best as possible, but please note that interruptions can happen along the way. Please keep your carts at the curb until they are emptied, and DO NOT place carts behind debris piles.
To help keep the collection process running smoothly, DO NOT place any construction debris in waste bins. This damages the city's trucks and equipment and will only slow the collection process.
Cooling/Comfort Stations:
Cooling/Comfort stations will soon be opening in the parking lot of the Police/Fire station, 180 108th Avenue. Residents can use these areas to cool down, shower, and charge devices. The Treasure Island Community Park and Sunset Beach locations will have laundry capabilities.
Disaster Assistance:
Our website offers resources to assist in disaster recovery. Click on the link on the homepage or directly access the page at MyTreasureIsland.com/DisasterAssistance
Permitting:
The city has waived permitting fees for demolishing damaged drywall, flooring, baseboards, cabinets, fence installation, tree removal, roof repair/replacement, and electrical for meter bases/power surges on appliances.
• Click the link on the city’s main webpage for more information about permitting post-storms.
Sand Removal/Cleaning
Contractors are back on-site clearing sand out of the Sunset Beach neighborhood. During this process, the contractor will determine which sand needs to be disposed of and which can be sifted and cleaned before being placed back on the beach. Residents are reminded not to park in the roadway so emergency crews can access all areas.
Gas
Florida gas stations are still struggling to get gas. The port of Tampa is now open, which should help alleviate the issue. Those looking to find a gas station with gas can check gasbuddy.com
