Debris Collection (does not include Sunset Beach)
Our debris collection crews are working diligently, but due to the extensive damage, we may only be able to collect debris from as little as a few properties each day. Please note that debris removal for the entire island may take up to 6 months or longer.

While City employees can collect mixed debris, FEMA contractors are prohibited and can only collect debris separated by category. To ensure your debris is picked up, please separate debris into the following four categories to comply with FEMA:

  • Appliances
  • Household Items
  • Construction Materials
  • Yard Debris

Crews will make a single pass through each property and will not revisit areas until the initial pass across the island is completed. To keep everyone informed, we will update a map daily to reflect our progress. View the map on the city’s main webpage at MyTreasureIsland.com.

Commercial Debris:
Commercial establishments, including apartment complexes, will have to provide their own contractors to remove debris from their properties.

Sunset Beach Access

The City of Treasure Island continues its recovery efforts in partnership with Public Works and contractors to clear the significant sand and debris from the roadways in your neighborhood.

We understand that many of you are eager to know when vehicles will be allowed back into Sunset Beach. Please know that we are working diligently to clear the area and ensure it is safe for residents. In the meantime, we are also exploring transportation options to assist you in entering and exiting the neighborhood until full access is restored.

Contractors will be allowed to access Sunset Beach by foot or city transportation.

Residents of Sunset Beach:
• PLEASE, DO NOT PLACE DEBRIS ON SAND PILES. When debris is placed on the piles, city crews and contractors cannot remove the sand – slowly the cleanup process.
• Do not place waste in the road or on access paths.
• Door-side trash service will be provided for those with sand piled in front of their house. Only plastic trash bags weighing less than 15 pounds will be collected at this time. Please your waste in the bags at your front door before 7 a.m. on Wednesdays and the waste will be collected.

Cooling/Comfort Stations

Safety Inspections
The State Fire Marshal has directed and authorized by rule fire safety inspectors within the Office of State Fire Marshal to conduct inspections of one family and two family dwellings within the strained counties, as needed to facilitate the restoration of electric utilities expeditiously and safely. Fire inspectors from around the state, including electrical engineers, will be conducting inspections.

Price Gouging Hotline:
Florida Attorney General Ashley Moody is activating Florida’s Price Gouging Hotline following a state of emergency declaration. During a storm-related declared state of emergency, state law prohibits excessive increases in the price of essential commodities, such as equipment, food, gasoline, hotel rooms, ice, lumber and water needed as a direct result of the event.

Anyone who suspects price gouging can report it to the Florida Attorney General’s Office by visiting MyFloridaLegal.com or calling 1(866) 9NO-SCAM.
