Update: Sept. 26 | 11:25 p.m.
Impacts from Hurricane Helene continue to batter Treasure Island. The devastation is severe. The next high tide is at 11:44 p.m. keeping surge levels high. Storm surge is forecasted to peak around 3 a.m.
The entire island has experienced significant storm surges and flooding. City and emergency officials are working tirelessly and are preparing to be able to return emergency resources to the island once it’s safe.
At first light, emergency personnel will begin accessing the island to start rescue operations and assess the damage.
The island will remain closed until officials confirm it's safe to return. Residents who evacuated will only be allowed back with a driver’s license showing a valid Treasure Island address or Barrier Island Re-Entry permit. Business owners will also be allowed back onto the island with proof of ownership.
Emergency crews from across the state are en route to assist with rescue efforts once it is safe to enter the island.
Recovery will take time, but we will be here every step of the way. Stay strong, and God bless.
