Tropical Storm Helene Update

UPDATE: SEPT. 24 | 10 p.m.

Tropical Storm Helene continues to develop. It is expected to become a hurricane tomorrow, Sept. 25. Forecasts predict a major hurricane as it passes west of Treasure Island on Thursday.

All the storm preparation information from earlier updates remains. View that update below or previous social media posts/email notifications.

Key points for this update:

  • A Storm Surge Warning, Tropical Storm Warning, Hurricane Watch and Flood Watch are in effect for Pinellas County.
  • The forecast calls for higher storm surge than the Tampa Bay area has experienced in recent history due to the storm’s wide wind field.
  • Evacuations for special needs registrants will begin at 9 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 25.
  • TIFR began contacting residents on the special needs registry on Tuesday to check their status. If you need transport, please contact the Treasure Island Fire Department at 727-547-4590
  • A decision about orders for a general evacuation of Zone A residents will be made Wednesday (9/25) morning based on the latest forecast. Additional shelter information would be announced at that time.
  • This storm is a rapid intensification event leaving little time to prepare. Even though the county has not made any mandatory evacuation orders yet, be prepared to evacuate if the situation changes.

The best advice is if you haven’t already started, begin your storm preparation and make important decisions as soon as possible tomorrow. Find storm prep tips and more at MyTreasureIsland.com/StormReady.
