UPDATE: Saturday, Aug. 3 | 5 p.m.
Tropical Storm Debby has formed over the southeast part of the Gulf of Mexico. A Tropical Storm Warning, Flood Watch and Storm Surge Watch are in effect for our area. Current storm predictions:
- The current forecast has a strong topical storm passing 100 miles west of Pinellas.
- Our area can expect 30 to 40 mph sustained winds with Gusts of 55 mph beginning around noon on Sunday and lasting through Monday morning.
- Current forecast modeling calls for a 2 to 4 foot storm surge and 4 to 6 inches of rain on Sunday. Higher than normal tides can be expected beginning midday Sunday.
- Isolated tornadoes or waterspouts are possible.
Have a storm ready plan to protect your home.
- If you live in an area prone to flooding, move electric vehicles and golf carts to higher ground. Saltwater can cause batteries in those vehicles to catch fire.
- The city will allow free parking after 8 p.m. Saturday in city lots for those wishing to move their vehicles out of flood-prone areas.
- Help keep storm drains and waterways near your home clear.
- Secure any loose items (patio furniture, items, etc.)
- If you choose to leave your home, make sure to turn the power off.
- If water does enter your home, turn the power off and move to an area in your home that is elevated.
- If you haven’t yet, sign up for Alert Pinellas to receive storm information directly to your phone, email, etc.: https://pinellas.gov/alert-pinellas/
- County Information Center (CIC) will be open for preparedness questions on Saturday, Aug. 3, from 9 a.m.-10 p.m. Call (727) 464-4333. Residents who are deaf or hard of hearing may contact the CIC during those same hours via online chat at bit.ly/PinellasChat.
Beach messaging:
- With a strong tropical storm in the Gulf, rip currents are expected. The city asks that you stay out of the water. If you choose to get in the water – please use caution as strong surf and rip currents can be dangerous for any type of swimmer.
- When thunder roars, go indoors. Lightning can travel more than 10 miles from a parent storm.
Other storm related messaging:
- Treasure Island police and fire will remain on the island. If you do have an emergency dial 911. Please be aware that if conditions deteriorate or winds are above 50 mph, emergency services may not be able to respond.
- If you have a generator, please make sure the generator is outside at least six feet away from your home. DO NOT run any generator inside your home.
- You can sign up for phone, text and/or email alerts from Duke Energy regarding power outages. https://www.duke-energy.com/outages/alerts
- Treasure Bay Golf and Tennis will be closed on Sunday.
