Hurricane season is fast approaching, and the city of Treasure Island wants to help everyone get storm-ready by hosting a Hurricane Expo on May 29 from 6 to 8 p.m. at City Hall on the 5th Floor. This event will feature a special presentation by Spectrum Bay News 9 Chief Meteorologist Mike Clay on what to expect this hurricane season. There will also be presentations from city staff about what to do in the event of a storm and how citizens and business owners can prepare. Those who attend will also receive safety and survival tips, flood insurance education, Red Cross information and more.

Most predictions are calling for above-normal tropical activity this year fueled by exceptionally warm ocean waters and an expected shift from El Niño to La Niña. It is crucial for residents to be prepared as hurricane season in Florida starts on June 1 and goes through the end of November. The expo will provide valuable information on how to protect yourself and your property during a storm.

Residents are encouraged to visit mytreasureisland.com/stormready to sign up for Alert Pinellas, learn about their evacuation zone, get storm preparation tips and more.
