A strong weather system will move across our area later today, Jan. 9. Storms are forecasted to begin impacting our area early to midafternoon.

City officials are monitoring the storm. Storm drains are being cleared of debris by city crews ahead of the storm.

Here is a summary of some of the expected hazards:

  • Elevated severe thunderstorm risk
  • Scattered to numerous severe thunderstorms possible
  • Primary threats: damaging winds, Isolated tornadoes
  • Wind Advisory in effect through 7 p.m. today, Jan. 9
  • Sustained winds of 25-30 mph with gusts to 40-50 mph
  • Potential period of coastal flooding this afternoon into early evening
